PROJECT CONTEXT

Design Decisions Connected to Delivery

A data centre’s electrical system is a chain from utility supply to the IT equipment. JEC coordinates utility intake, transformers, generators, fuel interfaces, UPS, batteries, switchgear, A/B paths, rack distribution, earthing, protection, metering and controls within the agreed project role.

DESIGN PRIORITIES

What Shapes the Approach

01

Load & growth

IT, cooling, support and future loads are scheduled with realistic diversity and phased deployment.

02

Topology & segregation

Normal, standby and uninterruptible paths are arranged around the agreed availability and maintenance strategy.

03

Protection & safety

Fault levels, selectivity, arc-risk inputs, earthing, bonding and equipment ratings are coordinated.

04

Monitoring & testing

Metering, EPMS interfaces, alarms, commissioning and integrated-system tests support operational control.

CAPABILITIES

Technical Scope

Utility and MV strategy

Supply options, substations, transformers, switchgear and redundancy interfaces.

Standby generation

Generator capacity, synchronisation, fuel interfaces, exhaust and auxiliary systems coordination.

UPS and batteries

Topology, autonomy, battery environment, bypass and maintainability requirements.

LV and rack distribution

Switchboards, busways, PDUs/RPPs, A/B segregation, cabling and containment.

Protection and earthing

Fault, discrimination, earthing, lightning and surge-protection design inputs.

BIM coordination

Electrical rooms, clearance, routes, containment, cooling and replacement access.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Planning the Appointment

Can JEC select the availability topology?

Options can be developed against the client brief, but the owner must confirm the business objective and any formal certification pathway.

Are generator fuel systems coordinated?

Yes, fuel storage, transfer, ventilation, detection, fire safety and controls can be coordinated with the generator strategy.

Does electrical BIM replace calculations?

No. Models support spatial coordination; calculations, diagrams, schedules, studies and design reviews remain essential engineering records.
